People often ask us why we are „importing“ Greyhounds from Spain as there are enough dogs in Swiss shelters.

The reason for our commitment is that Spanish shelters never can be compared with Swiss animal homes. In Switzerland no pet has to starve or to suffer pains. In our country pets in animal shelters are well-cared for.
(By the way: we also support these shelters by helping them to place the animals.)

The situation in Spain is completely different:

Part of the shelters are killing stations where dogs (and cats) are constantly "disposed of" by their owners and by municipal dog-catchers, especially before the hotel season starts and at the end of the hunting season.

Fortunately there are a number of animal protection groups even in Spain (see links ). They are the last hope for unwanted animals, mostly diseased, injured or traumatized.

But these animal protection groups are completely overstrained by the high number of abandoned animals in need of shelter. In Spain it is extremely hard to raise sufficient funds in order to cover the basic needs for the animals.

In addition rescued dogs in Spain have hardly any chance to find a home. Adult dogs are not in demand and there are plenty of puppies because the Spanish don’t believe in castration. They either want to save costs or they find castration unnatural. Pregnant bitches are often dumped by their owners and puppies are ditched in the garbage bins.

Spain as one of the most popular holiday destinations seems to be a developing country in matters of animal protection. That’s why we help!

For us animal protection does not stop at borders.

We all would be happy if there would be no more animals in need. But there are bound to be victims as long as people thoughtlessly acquire a pet or, like in Spain, consider animals as goods. And there are bound to be people saving them, whether in their own surroundings or in other countries.
